Medical professional network/Delivered and in service

Website and members portal for a Nordic medical network

A Nordic haematology network needed one place for its work: open pages explaining what the network does, and a closed area where members find the material. We built the whole site from scratch.

Where the time went

Nordic ITP Group brings together specialists across the Nordic countries around immune thrombocytopenia. The work consists of studies, guidelines, publications, webinars and podcasts, and the material was scattered among individuals rather than held in one place.

The need had two halves, and they pull in opposite directions. What should reach outward has to be open, readable and findable in search, including for clinicians outside the network. What is internal belongs behind a login. An ordinary company site solves only one of those.

What we built

We built the site from scratch in WordPress, with an open layer and a closed one. Outward, the site presents the network, the steering committee, the bylaws, the publications and the ongoing studies. Inward, there is a members area behind a login.

The public content is structured so each type of material has its own place. News and upcoming events sit on the front page, and visitors sign up to the newsletter directly on the site rather than emailing somebody who then adds them by hand.

How it works

  • Open outward, closed inward

Material for members sits behind a login, while what should reach people is open and findable.

  • All the material in one place

Studies, publications, guidelines, webinars and podcasts under one roof instead of scattered across inboxes.

  • News and events

Upcoming meetings and conferences go up as soon as they are set, and the newsletter signs people up on the page.

  • Readable on a phone

The pages work as well on a phone between two consultations as on the screen in the office.

The front page of nordicitp.com. The logo sits top left with the Nordic flags beneath it, and the main menu on the right separates About Us, Educational, Publications, Studies, Useful Information and Members Only. Below the menu, an image of red blood cells fills the screen, with the title Nordic ITP Group and a subtitle about improving care for patients with immune thrombocytopenia in the Nordic countries.
The front page as it stands. The menu separates the open content from the members area, so both have their place without getting in each other's way.

What they were left with

The network has a gathering point that works in both directions. Outward it is the face towards the field and towards anyone looking for information on the condition. Inward it is where members fetch their material, instead of searching old emails.

One place for both what should reach outward and what should stay internal.

The same recipe, other sectors

The recipe suits any membership organisation with both an outward and an internal need. It is the combination that matters, not the sector.

  • Trade bodies: open pages outward, member benefits and documents behind a login.
  • Professional networks and research groups: publications and studies gathered in one place.
  • Interest organisations: newsletters and events without manual signup.
  • Foundations and boards: bylaws, board composition and annual reports always current.
