Automated reporting and up to date numbers
If somebody spends a day a month fetching numbers, pasting them in and formatting them again, the report is a good place to start. It looks the same every time, which is exactly why it can make itself.
What this is about
The numbers usually live in several systems: sales in one, hours in another, finance in a third. The manual report is the glue between them, and it is out of date the moment it is finished.
We fetch the numbers straight from the sources, bring them together and produce the report or dashboard automatically. You get the same numbers every time, calculated the same way, and see them when you need them rather than when somebody has had time to make them.
What can be automated
Examples of tasks that can run on their own. Which ones pay off most is something we look at together.
- 01
The monthly report
Regular reports to management, the board or clients are made and sent automatically when the period closes.
- 02
A dashboard with fresh numbers
Key figures from several systems on one screen, updated as they change.
- 03
Alerts on exceptions
When a number moves outside the normal range, the right person hears at once, not in the next report.
- 04
One set of numbers
When every report draws from the same source, the argument about which spreadsheet is right stops.
Questions about reporting
01
Do we need a separate BI tool?
Not necessarily. Sometimes a ready-made BI tool is right, other times a simple report by email is enough. We recommend what fits the need and the budget.
02
How often are the numbers updated?
As often as you need and the sources allow. Some numbers only need updating once a day, others should be current all the time.
03
Can the report use spreadsheets we already have?
Yes. Spreadsheets in Excel, SharePoint or Google Sheets can be a source like any other system, and are often a natural first step.
Shall we look at what takes time where you are?
Tell us briefly how you work today, and we will say honestly whether it is something we can solve. Including when the answer is no.
